Baloch must benefit from Reko Diq: Mengal

Senior Baloch politician, a former chief minister of Balochistan and president of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal said in a statement that the people of Balochistan must get the benefits coming out from the Reko Diq project and they [the benefits] must be spent on the development of the province.

In a statement, the sitting MNA observed that Balochistan had always been exploited in the name of development.

With the resources it has, Balochistan should have had best infrastructure, education and medical facilities, he said.

“Balochistan deserves much better than this: a future,” he added.

It merits mention here that the federal and Balochistan governments have entered into an agreement with the Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corporation, accepting its investment of ten million dollars in the Reko Diq’s gold and mining site.

The BNP-M chief wants the profits from the deal to be spent on Balochistan’s development, and has claimed that the province had been ignored in the previous projects.
