Balochistan minister claims politicization of missing persons issue

In a recent press conference, Balochistan Minister for Information, Jan Achakzai, asserted that the issue of missing persons has become a pawn in the political arena. Striking a defiant tone, he declared the failure of propaganda surrounding the missing persons, emphasizing that a mere 820 individuals are reported missing in the entire country, with Balochistan accounting for only 468 cases.

The minister added a global perspective, juxtaposing Pakistan’s numbers with staggering figures of 300,000 missing individuals in India, 500,000 in the United States, and 170,000 in the United Kingdom.

Achakzai highlighted the case of Mah Rang Baloch, who accused authorities of orchestrating the disappearances. In a surprising twist, the minister revealed that 2,200 people had returned to Balochistan, challenging the narrative of systematic abductions. Adding a layer of complexity, he alleged that terrorists were surreptitiously being included in the roster of missing persons, further complicating the issue.

This revelation by the minister underscores the magnitude of the missing persons debate, suggesting that it extends beyond a mere humanitarian concern to become a contentious political tool. The stark comparison with global statistics serves to contextualize the situation, hinting at a broader pattern that transcends borders.

As the minister contends, the missing persons issue in Balochistan is not only a matter of concern but also a subject of intense political maneuvering, raising questions about the true nature of the discourse surrounding these disappearances. The assertion of a failed propaganda campaign adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, prompting a closer examination of the motives behind the politicization of this sensitive matter.
