Cambridge warns of fake social media posts after alleged A-levels paper leak

Following the alleged paper leakage of Cambridge International Education’s AS Level, CIE has issued a warning regarding the circulation of fake posts on social media platforms and WhatsApp groups posing as official statements.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, CIE emphasized that official updates and information are exclusively communicated through their official Facebook page and official communication channels with schools or the British Council directly.

They urged caution regarding the authenticity of messages received from other channels.

Earlier, students had claimed on social media, particularly Facebook groups, that the AS Level Mathematics Paper had been leaked online just before their scheduled exam on April 2.

This caused distress among students, fearing paper cancellation and adverse effects on their marks.

Expressing regret over the leak, students described it as a deplorable incident, considering their rigorous preparation for the tests.

In response to these claims, CIE initiated an inquiry into the alleged paper leakage, specifically for AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12 on May 2, 2024.

They assured close communication between Cambridge and the British Council during the investigation.

CIE stated they would provide updates on the matter once further news is available but emphasized they would not share additional information through Facebook comments or direct messages.

They thanked for understanding and support.

CIE and the British Council reiterated their commitment to maintaining exam integrity and fairness, vowing to work closely with schools to ensure a secure examination experience for all candidates.

While it remains unconfirmed whether a paper was leaked, both CIE and British Council sources are optimistic about completing the probe within a week or two.
