Caretaker CM Punjab takes measures to combat smog

In light of the prevailing smog conditions, educational institutions in Punjab will not be observing a holiday on Wednesday this week. This decision has been taken in a special meeting focused on anti-smog measures, which was convened at the Chief Minister’s Office on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and attended by provincial ministers.

During the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that, due to an improvement in the air quality index, there would be no holiday on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued directives to the Inspector General of Police and Secretary of Transport to continue their effective crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke.

He stressed on the importance of taking relentless action against brick kilns and factories that contribute to smog.

Factories emitting excessive smoke and those involved in burning tires will face immediate closure. The chief minister instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to take strong measures against the burning of crop residues. Swift action will also be taken against those found selling substandard fuel.

District administrations were further instructed to ensure the continuous watering of roads. Additionally, covering sand and gravel, along with regular water sprinkling, will be mandatory for construction activities.

With a focus on legal action against activities contributing to smog, Naqvi mandated all relevant departments to implement effective measures to control the air quality index.
