Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructs: Successful continuation of Drug-Free Punjab campaign

On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Drug Free Punjab campaign is going on rapidly across the province, under the leadership of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, the intelligence-based operations of police teams across the province have been accelerated.

According to the spokesman of Punjab Police, 287 raids were conducted by police teams on the hideouts of drug dealers in one day, 116 cases were registered against the accused involved in nefarious business and 119 accused were arrested. 54 kg of charas, 310 grams of ice and 1083 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused.

Spokesman of Punjab Police said that 25,935 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug dealers during the ongoing Drug Free Punjab campaign from February 26. 12603 accused involved in nefarious business were arrested against whom 12027 cases were also registered. 7733 kg of charas, 134 kg of heroin, more than 267 kg of opium, more than 37 kg of ice and 154414 liters of alcohol were recovered from the possession of the accused.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that the crackdown should be accelerated to eradicate the evil of drugs, all the dealers, smugglers and suppliers involved in the supply chain should be brought to book. Dr. Usman Anwar said that intelligence-based operations around educational institutions and hostels should be continued regularly, while parents, religious scholars, and civil society’s cooperation should be taken in the anti-narcotics campaign.
