Congo virus claims two lives in Attock

In response to the medical emergency, authorities have imposed Section 144 to curb the spread of the virus.Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza announced a ban on setting up cattle markets across the district.

Additionally, there is a complete ban on the inter-provincial and inter-district transfer of animals to prevent further transmission of the virus. The Section 144 ban will remain in effect until May 30, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Raza.

In November last year, a patient suffering from Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) died at a private hospital in Karachi. The deceased had been transferred to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital in Karachi from Quetta on a Friday morning and was on a ventilator.

“A total of 17 patients, including both suspected and confirmed cases of CCHF, were brought to Karachi. Of them, two have been discharged and two have passed away,” said a spokesperson for the Sindh health department. “An emergency has been declared in all government-run hospitals of the province to cope with the situation.”

The Balochistan government issued a red alert on Sunday due to the alarming situation of Congo virus fever in the province, which has claimed 16 lives.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki directed the province’s health and livestock departments to take immediate steps to curb the disease.

He also instructed that immediate information about the virus be conveyed to the general public and directed anti-viral sprays at livestock farms.
