Continuous increase in gas prices leads to reduced consumption

Islamabad: Rising gas prices have resulted in a decrease in gas consumption.

Similar to the shift towards solar energy, gas consumers are increasingly relying on alternative fuels. In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, consumers have reduced their gas usage due to the continuous price hikes. This fiscal year has seen a significant decline in gas consumption as a result.

According to documents obtained, household gas usage has decreased by 7%. The power sector’s gas consumption has dropped by 17% during the fiscal years 2023 and 2024. The cement sector has experienced a drastic 75% reduction in gas consumption.

The cement sector is the lowest priority for gas supply. One reason for the reduced gas consumption is the shift to alternative fuels by consumers. Another contributing factor is the lack of installation of new gas meters.
