CTD arrests ‘mastermind’ in Amjad Sabri murder case

The Sindh Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Tuesday that they have arrested the alleged ‘mastermind’ behind the murder of the renowned Qawwal, Amjad Sabri.

Amjad Sabri, aged 45, was in his car, traveling from his home in the Liaquatabad area to a television studio when a motorcycle pulled up alongside his vehicle, and the attackers opened fire on June 22, 2016.

The killing of one of Pakistan’s most beloved qawwals and naat khawans led to a nationwide outpouring of grief and sorrow, with a level of mourning rarely seen before on Pakistani social media.

According to a CTD spokesperson, an operative of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Qasim Rasheed, was arrested when he was activating his network after being released from jail.

The CTD stated that Amjad Sabri’s killers, Asim Capri and Ishaq Boby, carried out the murder on the instructions of Qasim Rasheed while he was in jail.

In his initial statement, Rasheed confessed to the killings of security officers and Amjad Sabri. Hand grenades and weapons were also found in Qasim Rasheed’s possession.

It’s important to note that in the case of Amjad Sabri’s murder, the convicts Ishaq and Asim had each received two death sentences from the court after being found guilty in an attack on an imam bargah in Karachi.
