Death toll climbs to 43 in China’s deadly landslide in Yunnan province

According to foreign media reports on Thursday, the death toll from a landslide in China’s mountainous southwest has risen to 43, with only one victim still missing beneath the debris.

The landslide occurred in Yunnan province’s Zhenxiong county early Monday, burying 18 homes and requiring the evacuation of nearly 200 residents.

In response to the disaster, President Xi Jinping directed comprehensive rescue efforts. According to Chinese state network CCTV, nine more remains were recovered at the site, boosting the death toll from 34 on Wednesday.

Despite harsh conditions such as freezing temperatures and snow, 200 rescue professionals have worked relentlessly to find buried villagers, with only one more victim left to recover from the debris.
