DIG aims to eradicate internal protocol system

Gunmen will not open door of vehicles for their officers, says Ahsan Younis

Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ahsan Younis on Friday issued orders to end protocol culture in the Police department.

In this regard, Younis asked all SSPs, SPs, SDPOs and SHOs to open the door of their own vehicles themselves. The DIG Operations said, “Gunmen or subordinates will not open the door of anyone’s vehicle. The on-duty officer is not a personal employee of anyone and he serves the state only.”

While talking to Minute Mirror exclusively, Younis said, “I also reject any kind of protocols which are not written on the paper. Every step taken by the police officers should enhance the prestige of the department instead of promoting personal protocol culture.”

He further explained, “It is nowhere written in police rules that a gunman or subordinate is bound to open the door of vehicles for the officers.”

On the other hand, former IG Tariq Pervaiz, while giving a reaction on this order said, “It is barely an issue to get this much importance. Many other serious matters are pending in the department which need direct supervision from the authorities. They should not be diverting the attention from the main issues.”

Former IG Khalid Latif, while speaking to Minute Mirror said, “It is an issue of basic manners, not written on paper. When I was on duty, even our Additional IGs used to carry their own bag and they used to open their own door of the vehicle. Today, even an inspector of the department keeps two gunmen with him. Nowadays, I have a fear of that time when there will be an office order to tell people whom to greet and how.”
