Johnson returns to his role alongside actors such as Auli’i Cravalho. Speaking at Cinemacon, Johnson shared his insights into the film, expressing how portraying Maui has been a transformative experience for him and a significant representation of his culture.

He revealed that his character’s tattoos reflect his own and emphasized the personal connection the role holds, particularly to his grandfather.
