Earthquake of magnitude 4.2 in Zhob

On Thursday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale shook Balochistan’s Zhob district and surrounding areas.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre indicated that the earthquake’s depth was 15km, with the epicenter located 123 km to the north. The sudden tremors prompted people to exit their homes in panic, seeking solace in reciting verses from the Holy Quran.

Fortunately, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received from any part of Zhob so far. In a previous seismic event on January 6, regions in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir experienced a more intense earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0.

The tremors were felt in various areas, including Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Islamabad, Lahore, Swabi, Kohat, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Batgram, Khyber, Landi Kotal, Barra, Chitral, and other parts of Pakistan.

The seismological center reported that the earthquake’s depth was 213 kilometers, with the epicenter situated in the Hindukush region. Fearing the seismic activity, people emerged from their houses, reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.
