ECC meeting approves funds for defense production and Pakistan Steel Mills salaries

Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting led by Finance Minister Aurangzeb, several crucial decisions were made to address various national priorities.

During the meeting, an 18-point agenda was deliberated upon, resulting in significant approvals for key projects.

Notably, a supplementary grant of Rs. 20 crore was sanctioned for defense production, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering national security.

Additionally, the ECC endorsed the payment of salaries to employees of Pakistan Steel Mills for the period spanning from January 2024 to June 2024, ensuring financial stability for the workforce of this vital institution.

Furthermore, the ECC deliberated on other important matters, including an advance subsidy of Rs. 70 billion for K Electric, aimed at supporting the energy sector.

Moreover, a supplementary grant of Rs. 4.86 billion was approved for the Atomic Energy Commission, emphasizing the significance of advancements in nuclear technology. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy received a technical supplementary grant of Rs. 2.5 billion to further its initiatives in the energy sector.

Addressing agricultural concerns, the ECC emphasized the importance of ensuring an adequate supply of urea fertilizer for the upcoming Kharif season, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector. To facilitate this endeavor, a supplementary grant of Rs. 5.89 billion was allocated for the Import of Urea.
