ECP makes SMS service 8300 free of charge

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that starting next Monday, the SMS service 8300 will be provided free of charge. The statement was issued by ECP’s Spokesperson, Syed Nadeem Hyder, Additional Director General Nighat Sadique, and the Project Director of the Project Management Unit.

Voters can inquire about details regarding their constituencies and polling stations by sending their computerized identity card numbers to 8300, according to the ECP officials. They saidthat voters need to bring their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to the polling station for voting, and even if the CNIC is expired, a vote can still be cast, or by using the token issued for the issuance of a new CNIC.

Additional Director General of ECP, Nighat Sadique, mentioned that a significant number of international observers have been invited to monitor the elections.

ECP’s Spokesperson, Syed Nadeem Hyder, highlighted that the Election Act sets a time limit for the completion of election results. Presiding officers are required to send the election results to the Election Commission by 2 am. In case of any delay, the returning officer will investigate the cause of the delay from the presiding officer and submit it to the Election Commission. The spokesperson said that election results must be finalized by 10 am the next day according to the regulations.
