ECP says election schedule on social media is fake

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the timetable for the upcoming general elections doing rounds on social media.

In a Tweet, the ECP said the schedule is fake.

According to social media, the scheduled to occur nationwide on February 8, 2024, candidates are invited to submit their nomination papers during the period from December 20 to 25.

The comprehensive list of candidates’ names is set to be made public on December 27.

Scrutiny of the submitted nomination papers is slated to take place from January 1 to January 6, 2024.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of papers will be heard on January 9, 2024.

January 11, 2024, serves as the final day for the Election Appellate Authority to make decisions on appeals.

Following the resolution of objections, the definitive list of candidates will be released on January 15, 2024.

The withdrawal of nomination papers can be carried out until January 16, 2024.

Candidates will be assigned their electoral symbols on January 17, 2024. Notably, the polling day is earmarked for February 8, 2024, which is a Thursday.”
