ECP to hold meeting to discuss PHC’s decision on PTI’s bat symbol

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called for a meeting to address the ongoing controversy surrounding the allocation of election symbols to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Scheduled at the Election Commission’s Secretariat and chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the meeting will take place tomorrow morning.

Reports indicated that the main agenda revolves around the recent decision of the Peshawar High Court regarding PTI’s intra-party elections and their election symbol.

All four commission members, along with special secretaries, are expected to attend the session. The electoral watchdog’s law wing will provide a detailed briefing on the legal aspects associated with the Peshawar High Court’s ruling.

It’s noteworthy that the Election Commission is yet to officially receive the detailed verdict from the Peshawar High Court on the PTI intra-party elections.

The PHC had declared the ECP’s order on the ‘bat’ symbol as “illegal, without any lawful authority and of no legal effect,” granting permission to PTI to use the symbol in upcoming elections.
