ECP totally partial, has lost relevance: Arbab

PTI leader and former Sindh chief minister Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has become totally partial and lost its relevance, importance as well as the confidence of the people of different political parties for the partisan decisions by its officials.

He also claimed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan was also being contacted by those who matter in the state of affairs in the country. Addressing a news conference in Mithi on Wednesday along with Arbab Anwar Jabbar, MPA Abdul Razzak Rahimoon, Advocate Lajpat Rai, Dilwar Malkani, the dissident PPP leaders including Abdul Ghani Khoso and Mohammad Khan Loond and others, Dr. Rahim said that officials from both ECP and district administration in Tharparkar had become the personal assistants of the PPP leaders and announced they would besiege the office of District Returning Office (DRO) in Mithi on June 24 if their demands were not met.

Dr. Rahim and others said that PPP leaders in the desert district have made the whole district a living hell for those who are contesting LB polls against the PPP’s candidates, adding that he highly condemned the registration of cases against senior PPP leader Abdul Ghani Khoso, who had revolted against the party decision after he was not given the party ticket to contest elections from Tharparkar region.

“In the past few years, Tharparkar has turned into a police estate and rivals of PPP leaders have been subjected to the worst victimization,” he said and warned the government officials to stop acting as personal servants of PPP lawmakers and leaders.

He alleged that venues of the polling stations had been changed and government or private buildings which were under the use of PPP leaders had been made as the polling stations which clearly indicated that they were afraid of their defeat if they would go into the elections in a fair manner.

Dr. Rahim said that officials of ECP had already been given the lists of the PPP candidates and they would announce their victories soon after the process of the polls on June 26 as per the dictation of the top PPP leadership. He added that it looked that conducting the vote process was just a fraud and exercise in futility under the given situations.

“The government officers from other districts have been made the presiding officers and those who are neutral have not been posted at the polling station to ensure the massive rigging during upcoming local bodies’ polls,” he alleged.

The PTI leader said that PPP was no longer a democratic party and added that had it been a party with democratic norms it would not have registered cases against its dissenting senior leaders like Abdul Ghani Khoso.
