Elections 2024: Punjab government allocates Rs 4.18 billion for security arrangements

With the 2024 general elections approaching fast, the Punjab provincial administration has set up Rs 4.18 billion for security and logistical measures.

A total of 222,747 police, ranger, and army personnel will be deployed for security. The finance department’s documents show allocations for costs such as CCTV cameras, including Rs2.99 billion for deputy commissioners and Rs992.2 million for installing cameras at key polling sites.

An additional Rs1.50 billion is granted for Army and Rangers personnel’s security tasks, as well as Rs500 million for possible additional costs. The Punjab Inspector General has acquired Rs1.1933 billion for police officers’ tasks and costs.

Furthermore, 92,700 army and Rangers soldiers would be among the 222,747 individuals tasked with security during the polls. The finance department disbursed Rs3 billion from the November-February budget, which was augmented by an extra Rs1.185 billion in grants.
