Ex-AJK premier Sardar Tanveer Ilyas gets post-arrest bail

In a significant development, Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah granted bail to Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, requiring a surety bond of Rs100,000, and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to release him from custody.

During today’s court session, the FIA team presented their records and strongly opposed the granting of bail to Ilyas. However, the court dismissed the FIA’s objections and ruled in favor of releasing the accused.

Sardar Tanveer Ilyas stands accused of retaining his diplomatic passport after stepping down from his position as the premier of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). In the preceding hearing, the FIA prosecutor informed the court that Ilyas had unlawfully used his diplomatic passport for travel to Saudi Arabia after his tenure in office had ended, which constitutes a legal violation. Despite the cancellation of his diplomatic passport, Ilyas had not returned it, as required by law.

In addition to the passport controversy, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was earlier apprehended in connection with a case involving an alleged attack on a company’s office. Sources revealed that the former AJK prime minister was detained under charges filed at the Margalla Police Station. The allegations include attempts to seize the central offices and critical documents of Centaurus Mall, further complicating his legal troubles.

This series of events highlights the legal challenges faced by Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and underscores the ongoing scrutiny of his actions both during and after his tenure as AJK’s premier.
