‘Fabricated’ reports on dengue expose departmental ills

Faisalabad Education Department, instead of implementing anti-dengue orders, resorts to preparing fake reports

Instead of implementing the anti-dengue orders, the officers and focal persons of Faisalabad Education Department have resorted to preparing fake reports and completing the paperwork, Minute Mirror has learnt.

Sharing bogus photos of anti-dengue activities has become a norm. After the issues came to light, the district officer of elementary education issued show-cause notices to the focal persons of 87 schools and assistant education officers.

During the current rainy season, the Punjab government issued an order to the Faisalabad Education Department to start an anti-dengue campaign in all government schools to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes in all possible ways. The government also called for uploading photos of all these anti-dengue activities on their respective portals and dashboards. In this regard, the focal persons of the government schools colluded with the assistant education officers and ignored the implementation of the orders of the anti-dengue campaign. Instead, fake reports of anti-dengue activities were prepared and uploaded on the respective portals and dashboards.

The district officer of elementary education released a list of fake and bogus images and entries from 87 schools. It proved that bogus pictures and entries were being registered by the focal persons of the schools instead of implementing the anti-dengue orders, on which, the deputy district education officer, assistant education officers and other heads of schools have been issued show cause notices, and an explanation has been sought from them.

According to sources, orders were issued by the Punjab government to commemorate Anti-Dengue Day, under which seminars were to be organised for public awareness in all government schools, while awareness walks were also supposed to be held. Similarly, posters and pamphlets based on preventive measures to prevent dengue were also needed to be distributed among citizens. However, these anti-dengue orders were completely ignored in government schools.

Officials of the education department have expressed their anger over fake reports of anti-dengue campaign activities in government schools of Faisalabad. Overall, all school heads have been directed to conduct anti-dengue activities in actuality instead of fake activities.

In this regard, District Officer Elementary Education Mazhar Hussain said that bogus entries and reports of anti-dengue activities have come to light. “Show-cause notices have been issued to the focal persons and concerned education officers who have shown negligence; they have been directed to submit a written explanation within a week,” he added. He stressed that strict departmental action will be taken against the employees making bogus entries and fake reports.
