Gillespie to coach Pakistan in red-ball cricket, Kirsten in white-ball cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the appointment of Jason Gillespie as the red-ball head coach and Gary Kirsten as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, with Azhar Mahmood serving as an assistant coach across all formats.

These appointments, made following a thorough recruitment process, are for a two-year period.

Kirsten will assume his role immediately after wrapping up his duties in the Indian Premier League.

Kirsten’s tenure will include overseeing the team’s participation in various tournaments, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and other bilateral white-ball series, as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ACC T20 Asia Cup 2025, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Gillespie will take charge for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship fixtures against Bangladesh, followed by Tests against England and South Africa in the 2024-25 season.

PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in the newly appointed coaches, citing their impressive track records and their potential to guide the team to new heights.

In his remarks, Gillespie expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coach the Pakistan team and outlined his vision for achieving success in the Test format.

Kirsten also shared his excitement and commitment to leading the team in limited-overs cricket, emphasizing the importance of unity, talent utilization, and player development for achieving success on the field.
