Gold pocket watch found in Titanic auctioned for 400 million rupees

A gold pocket watch recovered from the body of the wealthiest passenger of the era aboard the sunken ship Titanic in 1912 has been auctioned at a record price.

The watch was discovered with the body of John Jacob Astor.

John Jacob was travelling on the Titanic with his new wife when the ocean liner sank.

This gold watch was sold for 12 million British pounds (over 400 million Pakistani rupees).

The case of this watch is considered the most valuable item recovered from the Titanic surpassing the previous record held by a violin sold for 1.1 million pounds in 2013.

This watch was auctioned by an American company.

According to the company, the sale price of 12 million pounds includes all taxes and fees.

During the auction, a violin recovered from the Titanic was also sold for 360,000 pounds.

The company stated that the sale of Titanic artifacts at such a high price is astonishing.

According to a company spokesperson, not only does this highlight the importance of artifacts but it also shows how much interest there still is in the Titanic.

The spokesperson said that even 112 years after the sinking of the ship, people are still talking about the vessel and its passengers.

The spokesperson said that although it was a ship that collided with an iceberg and sank, there are 2,200 stories hidden inside it. These stories belong to the passengers who still enchant us today.

John Jacob Astor spent his last moments conversing with his fellow passenger instead of boarding a lifeboat.

His body was retrieved from the ocean days after the ship sank, and a pocket watch made of 14-carat gold was found in his pocket.

He was worth 8.7 million dollars at the time equivalent to several billion dollars today.

It is worth noting that the ship sank in April 1912 during its maiden voyage from Britain to America resulting in the deaths of over 1,500 people.
