Government spending on interest payments for loans in 9 months

Islamabad: According to sources from the Ministry of Finance, a total of Rs. 4807 billion has been spent on interest payments for local loans from July to March.

During the same period, an expenditure exceeding Rs. 710 billion was incurred for the payment of interest on external loans. Additionally, sales tax collections amounted to Rs. 2237 billion during the current fiscal year.

The sources revealed that during the period from July to March, Rs. 402 billion was accumulated from the Federal Excise Duty while provinces collected Rs. 353 billion from sales tax on services and Rs. 8 billion from excise duty. Government departments received dividends worth Rs. 64 billion during the 9-month period.

It was further stated by the Ministry of Finance that the federal government received Rs. 35 billion from passport fees and Rs. 6.5 billion in PTI benefits. Under the NFC awards during the period from July to March, Punjab received Rs. 1865 billion and Sindh received Rs. 946 billion.

Additionally, during the same period under the NFC awards, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received Rs. 623 billion while Balochistan received Rs. 379 billion.
