Hamas criticizes US opposition to South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel at world court

Hamas group criticized the US stance on South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), stating it shows “contempt for international law” and is an “American attempt to disrupt it.”

According to Hamas, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s comments on the lawsuit represent a disregard for international law and an effort to obstruct international justice tools.

Hamas called on the US to halt its policies, which it claims contribute to the aggression and genocide in Gaza.

The US, on the other hand, has described South Africa’s “genocide” case at the ICJ as “meritless” and “galling,” stating that it distracts from global efforts for peace and security.

South Africa filed the lawsuit on December 29, alleging that Israel violated the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Gaza since October 7.

Several countries, including Turkey, Bolivia, Jordan, and Malaysia, have expressed support for the case.
