Hamas must accept truce deal and be removed from Gaza leadership, UK foreign secretary says

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron urged Hamas on Monday to accept a 40-day ceasefire and the release of potentially thousands of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for freeing Israeli hostages.

The proposal, presented at a Special Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, aimed to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Cameron stated the importance of Hamas taking the deal, stating that the international community was watching and hoping for an end to the fighting. He highlighted the need for a political solution that would lead to a two-state solution, with an independent Palestine co-existing with Israel.

The UK foreign minister stressed the importance of both Israeli security and Palestinian statehood, calling for the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for peace in Gaza for global economic growth, citing the impact of conflicts like the one between Russia and Ukraine on commodity prices and trade.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal Alibrahim, agreed, stating that increased productivity and global collaboration were necessary for improving economic growth.

He highlighted the importance of reducing fragmentation and focusing on tools that would boost productivity for global economic growth.
