Hearing denied on petition against Twitter ban without action

Lahore: The Lahore High Court refused to hear a petition against the ban on Twitter without taking any action.

The petition against the ban on Twitter was filed in the Lahore High Court by citizen advocate Shakir Mahmood Awan in which the federal government and others were implicated.

The petitioner has taken the position that constitutionally, a citizen’s freedom cannot be taken away arbitrarily and shutting down Twitter is equivalent to violating freedom and basic rights.

The request from the citizen urges the court to order the restoration of Twitter services.

Today due to the retirement of Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan from the Lahore High Court no action was taken on the petition against the ban on Twitter.

The denial of a hearing on the petition without further action raises questions about the judicial approach to issues related to online platforms and their impact on freedom of expression.

While the decision of the court may disappoint those advocating for the restoration of Twitter services, it highlights the ongoing struggle between the government’s authority and the public’s right to express themselves freely.

This case draws attention to the delicate balance between national security concerns and the preservation of fundamental rights in the digital age. As discussions about online censorship and freedom of expression continue to evolve, the stance of the Lahore High Court on the Twitter ban sets a precedent for future legal battles in the realm of cyberspace.
