On Sunday, the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah announced that it had successfully downed an Israeli drone engaged in a combat mission over southern Lebanon.

According to Hezbollah’s statement, the drone was conducting attacks on the Al Aishiyeh area in southern Lebanon, targeting their resilient population.

The downed drone was identified as an Israeli Hermes 450, a multi-payload drone manufactured by Elbit Systems, an Israel-based weapons producer.

Tensions between Israeli forces and Hezbollah have been ongoing for over six months, coinciding with the Gaza conflict and marking the most significant hostilities since the 2006 war between the two sides.

The prolonged fighting has raised concerns about the potential for further escalation and has resulted in casualties on both sides. A Reuters tally reports at least 370 Lebanese casualties, including over 240 Hezbollah fighters and 68 civilians. On the Israeli side, 18 individuals, including soldiers and civilians, have been reported killed according to Israeli counts.
