Human Rights Commission concerned for Christain community in Sargodha

Human Rights Commission Pakistan on Saturday has expressed concerns on the situation folding in Sargodha.

Taking it to X, the organization tweeted that the Christain community in Gillwala Village is reportedly at risk at the hands of charged mobs. “There are unconfirmed reports of a man having been allegedly lynched”, it tweeted.

In Sargodha, two Christians were blamed for burning Holy Quran that resulted into a mob burning the house of the accused without any evidence.

HRCP requested Punjab police and district administration to restore law and order situation and protect the minorities in the district.

Previously in a fact-finding report on blasphemy cases in Sargodha district, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) highlighted the misuse of mosque loudspeakers and pulpits to incite violence and press for FIRs against the Christian community.

The report, titled “Mob Violence and the Social Ostracisation of the Christian Community in Sargodha,” was released. It calls for authorities to hold accountable those involved in mob violence and those who deviated from due process when lodging FIRs.

The HRCP formed a fact-finding mission in September to assess the severity of the situation and the level of insecurity and fear within the Christian community. The report noted that a series of blasphemy-related FIRs filed against Christians in Sargodha since July had escalated to threats of mob violence against the community.
