IHC holds verdict on Bushra Bibi’s plea in reserve

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on the petition to transfer Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, from Bani Gala to Adiala jail.

During the hearing, Justice Mian Gil Hassan Aurangzeb listened to arguments from Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Riaz Gil. The court inquired about the cases in which Bushra Bibi had been sentenced. Her lawyer explained that she had received sentences in an illegal marriage case on February 3, as well as in the Toshakhana case on January 31.

The lawyer for the applicant stated that the sentences had been handed down without Bushra Bibi being present during the trials. She voluntarily surrendered after the warrants of arrest were issued, and was later transferred to Bani Gala as a sub-jail as per the chief commissioner’s orders.

Justice Mian Gil questioned the lawyer about the jail rules pertaining to transfers, to which the lawyer elaborated that Bushra Bibi had been initially sent to Adiala jail on the orders of the trial court, but was later transferred back to Bani Gala. The lawyer further explained that the transfer to Adiala jail was deemed illegal by the Interior Ministry, resulting in a notification from the chief commissioner’s office.

The IHC has now reserved its verdict on the matter.
