IMF’s review mission to visit Pakistan following 2024 elections

Pakistan and IMF

According to sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) intends to send a review mission to the country after the 2024 elections, following Pakistan’s confirmation to implement additional levies.

Discussions over the Standby Arrangement (SBA) program will continue with the next elected government following the 2024 general elections.

While the IMF has not officially confirmed the second review timeline, it was previously announced that talks would take place with the newly elected government, which was confirmed in July 2023.

The IMF has funded $1.9 billion of the total $3 billion under the nine-month SBA, which is set to end on April 12, 2024. If the second assessment is approved, Pakistan is expected to receive the final tranche of $1.1 billion in April 2024.

Notably, on January 17, the IMF granted Pakistan a $700 million loan tranche through the SBA.
