India bans Islamic PFI group after alleging it of terrorism

On Wednesday, India bans the Popular front of India (a Muslim organization to counter Hindutva groups) and its affiliates for five years, declaring them “illegal” and accusing them of having terrorist links.

According to the Aljazeera report, India’s home ministry said “The Popular Front of India and its associates or affiliates or fronts have been found to be involved in serious offences, including terrorism and its financing, targeted gruesome killings, disregarding the constitutional set up.”

India’s home minister stated that they have found multiple instances of PFI involvement in terrorism activities of global terrorist groups. The statement said the government has banned PFI and its affiliates including Rehab India Foundation, Campus Front of India, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organization, National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation, and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.
As per a Reuters report, PFI replied through –Its now banned student wing –Campus Front of India (CFI) stating that the government act is political conspiracy and propaganda.

“We are against the concept of a Hindu nation, we are against fascism, not India,” Imran P.J., national secretary of the CFI, told Reuters. He further added that the PFI will overcome this hurdle and after five years, they will resurrect their ideology. Imran also denied any involvement in terrorism.

The PFI denied allegations of terror and anti-national operations on Tuesday after its offices were raided and dozens of its members were detained across the country.
