Indian states to face intense heatwave

For the next three days, severe heatwave conditions are forecasted for West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand. This information comes from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heatwaves ranging from moderate to severe will continue to affect many areas in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar. Jharkhand will also experience these conditions until May 1. After that, on May 2, isolated heatwaves are likely to persist in these regions, as indicated by the IMD.

Isolated heatwave conditions are expected in Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh over the next five days. In Telangana, heatwaves are predicted from April 29 to May 1, and in Kerala and Konkan on April 29.

Additionally, warm and humid weather is anticipated in Telangana on May 2, in Konkan and Goa from April 30 to May 1, and in Kerala and Mahe, along with Coastal Karnataka, during the next five days.

A red alert has been issued for Gangetic West Bengal due to severe heatwave conditions persisting for several days. Senior scientist Soma Sen Roy from IMD said that North Odisha is also facing heatwaves, though not as intense as in West Bengal. Yet, the heatwave is severe enough to warrant a red alert in some parts of Odisha.

On another note, the IMD predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning, over India-held Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand until April 30. On April 29, hailstorms might occur in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely in Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh on April 29. Uttar Pradesh might also experience similar conditions on April 29, according to the IMD.
