Intense heatwave continues to grip Lahore and Punjab

Lahore and Punjab are expected to endure a severe heatwave throughout the week, with temperatures likely to remain significantly above normal levels.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts an increase of 06 to 08°C in daytime temperatures for most districts of the province on Friday and over the weekend.

According to the PMD, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan, accompanied by high pressure in the upper atmosphere, a pattern expected to persist throughout the week.

Consequently, Lahore and much of Punjab are anticipated to experience a prolonged heatwave until May 27, with temperatures soaring 06 to 08°C above normal. In regions like the Potohar area, Murree, and Galyat, isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted.

Maximum temperatures in Lahore are expected to range between 45-47°C on Friday and 46-48°C on Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most parts of Punjab. Rahim Yar Khan recorded the highest temperature in the province at 48°C. Other areas such as Khanpur, Kot Addu, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, and Dera Ghazi Khan also experienced scorching temperatures, reaching up to 47°C. In Lahore, the maximum temperature reached 42°C, with an evening relative humidity of 31 per cent.
