Interior Minister wants to give LEAs “full powers”

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has requested that Parliament grant “full powers” to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to handle “armed groups” accusing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan of causing turmoil in the nation.

Sanaullah accused Imran of marching on Islamabad with armed gangs during a joint session of Parliament on motion pertaining to important national concerns, including law and order, while his workers fired shots and threw stones at law enforcement during a police raid at his Zaman Park mansion.

He further stated that during the struggle, there were no shots fired by the police towards PTI supporters.

Minister stated that Parliament was responsible for guiding the nation in a variety of matters and that it would now need to step in to prevent attempts by one party to bring about an administrative crisis in the country.

He said, “One individual (Imran Khan) is trying to establish law and order together with his team.”

He said that attempts were being made to instigate political and administrative crises, and he asked Parliament for advice on how to deal with these problems and provide guidance on how to deal with the current economic crisis.

The interior minister stated that the Constitution, which was drafted by the legislature, establishes the supremacy of the Parliament over all other institutions.

The minister said that Parliament has the power to change the Constitution and control the influence of other institutions. Additionally, he encouraged the parliament to assess the country’s overall state and give clear instructions to all institutions about their fundamental responsibilities.

Despite the fact that there isn’t now a political or administrative crisis attempts to do such should be stopped, he added. According to a minister, Imran Khan has spent the previous 10 years instigating turmoil and disorder in the nation. The minister said that Imran Khan won the 2018 election by “rigging and management” of the process.

He asserted that while serving as prime minister, Imran Khan attempted to marginalize the opposition and turned down Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s requests for collaboration in helping the nation overcome difficulties.

Rana Sanaullah said thabt it was written in the constitution that if the assembly is dissolved, then the election should be held in 90 days, but is it not mentioned that the elections should be held in a transparent and fair manner.

He said that elections should be held together for political stability instead of being a precursor to a new crisis in the country.

In another objection, the PML-N leader said that if a party forms its government after the elections in Punjab province, then about 60 percent of the National Assembly is from Punjab.

He said that they are not talking about holding simultaneous elections in the whole country but it was the best interest of this country.

Later, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf adjourned the joint session of parliament till March 27.
