Iranian president travels to Turkey to discuss Palestinian issue with president Erdogan

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has traveled to Turkey for discussions with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on strategies to prevent the escalation of Israel’s conflict with Gaza.

Expressing a shared commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their resistance, Raisi stated before boarding his plane that Iran and Turkey hold a common position on the matter.

Raisi’s visit takes place amid heightened tensions and increased hostilities across the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Analysts suggest that the Gaza crisis has shifted the focus of regional disputes, prompting the leaders to explore a collaborative regional approach.

Clemson University professor Arash Azizi anticipates that Raisi and Erdogan may announce symbolic measures regarding Palestine after their meeting. However, the primary focus is expected to center on containing the conflict and preventing further expansion, aligning with the shared interests of Ankara and Tehran.
