Is parallel Punjabi cinema still running in Pakistan?

Despite the belief that the revival of Pakistani film industry chooses to focus more on modern stories set in urban space, executed through quality production, there still seems to be a parallel Punjabi cinema in the running, producing a film off and on to cater to its audience.

Just a few days back, ace director Syed Noor released the trailer of his upcoming Punjabi film ‘Tere Bajre Di Rakhi’ starring Saima Noor in the leading role. This week, a poster of another upcoming Punjabi film starring some important names like Iftikhar Thakkur was shared on the internet.

Titled as ‘Rang Ishqay Da’, the film promises a typical Lollywood setting, comprising of the hero and heroine lying for a romantic encounter in ample hay, trying to become one amidst the conservative ideologies of the people of the village.

The final release date for the film has not been announced, but the few other details which have been shared tell that ‘Rang Ishqay Da’ has been produced by Dr. Muhammad Kashif Riaz and it has been written and directed by Mohammad Pervaiz Kaleem.

Contrary to this, the release date for Syed Noor’s Punjabi film has been announced, which happens to be the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
