Islamabad accountability court halts toshakhana case against President Zardari citing constitutional immunity

The Islamabad Accountability Court has stopped proceedings against President Asif Zardari in the Toshakhana vehicle reference case, citing the constitutional immunity granted to the President under Article 248 of the constitution.

Zardari’s counsel, Farooq H. Naek, filed an application arguing that the President is protected from criminal proceedings while in office.

The court ruled that the case cannot be heard until Zardari is no longer in office as President of Pakistan, as per Article 248(2) and (3), which prohibit criminal proceedings and arrest or imprisonment of the President or a governor during their term.
