Israeli Airstrike Results in Death of 36 Syrian Soldiers Near Aleppo, Says War Monitor

An Israeli airstrike in northern Syria’s Aleppo province resulted in the death of at least 36 Syrian soldiers on Friday, as reported by a war monitor.

The strike targeted an area near rocket depots affiliated with the Lebanese group Hezbollah, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which maintains an extensive network of sources in Syria.

Syrian state news agency SANA stated that the pre-dawn attack caused casualties among both civilians and military personnel.

A Syrian military source told SANA that the attack occurred around 1:45 a.m. from the direction of Athriya, southeast of Aleppo, resulting in casualties among civilians and military personnel.

The Britain-based SOHR, an opposition war monitor, indicated that the strikes targeted Hezbollah missile depots in Jibreen, a southern suburb of Aleppo near the Aleppo International Airport. Israeli officials had not issued an immediate statement regarding the strikes.

Recent months have seen an escalation in strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria, often attributed to Israel, against the backdrop of the conflict in Gaza and ongoing clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along the Lebanon-Israel border
