K-Electric requests increase in power prices

K-Electric has recently lodged a formal request pertaining to a significant adjustment in fuel prices that would impact electricity rates over a period of nine months.

This proposal entails an increase in the cost of power for a duration spanning seven months, coupled with a reduction for the remaining two months within the specified timeframe.

The plea, specifically filed under the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism, pertains to the period from July 2023 to March 2024. K-Electric is seeking to implement a raise in power rates for a total of seven months during this period.

The cumulative effect of this proposed increase amounts to Rs18.86. However, in an attempt to balance the adjustment, there’s also a proposed reduction in rates for the remaining two months, with a marginal decrease of 0.29.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to convene and review K-Electric’s plea on May 9th. Subsequently, NEPRA will deliberate on the implications of the FCA adjustment and make a decision based on the presented arguments and considerations.
