Kamran Akmal rallies behind Ahmed Shehzad

Former Pakistan Test cricketer Kamran Akmal voiced his support for cricketer Ahmed Shehzad on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

Akmal commented on the announcement of Pakistan’s squad for the series against Ireland and England, suggesting that players like Shehzad could have been given the opportunity to play if the team was solely for these series.

He also mentioned Sahibzada Farhan, Muhammad Ali, Usama Mir, and Aamer Jamal as potential candidates for inclusion.

Pakistan batter Babar Azam will lead an 18-member squad for the Ireland and England series, as announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday.

Mohammad Yousuf, accompanied by Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz, disclosed the team composition during a press conference, stating that Usama Mir and Zaman Khan were dropped, with Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali replacing them.

Yousuf provided updates on Mohammad Rizwan’s injury, noting significant improvement, and expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to play on any pitch against any opponent.

He also addressed the scarcity of players adept at playing sweep shots, emphasizing the need to play without fear.

Yousuf lauded Babar Azam’s leadership, citing the team’s performance in the finals of the Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 under his captaincy.
