Karachi braces for moderate to heavy rainfall on April 17, 18

The Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi on April 17 and 18, as a new series of westerly winds is expected to enter southwest Balochistan on the night of April 16, potentially causing rain in Sindh province.

Medium intensity rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with heavy downpours in certain areas, is anticipated in Karachi during the specified period. Additionally, districts including Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and others in Sindh are expected to experience heavy rainfall.

Recent radar observations indicate signs of heavy rain in the west and southwest areas of Karachi, with the system’s impact moving eastward. Satellite observations suggest the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by intermittent thundershowers continuing until evening.

In recent rainfall data released by the Meteorological Department, Nazimabad recorded the highest rainfall at 21.2 mm, while Jinnah Terminal Airport recorded the lowest at 1.2 mm.

Chief Meteorologist Karachi, Sardar Sarfaraz, assured that while there is no expectation of unusual rain in the city on Sunday, light rain may occur due to the influence of the western system. Another western system may bring rain to rural Sindh, including Karachi, on April 17 and 18, with the final forecast to be determined in the next few days.

The city experienced mostly cloudy weather on Saturday, with a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius and 66 percent humidity.
