London’s King’s Cross removes Ramadan message after backlash

Network Rail removed Ramadan-related messages from the departures board at London King’s Cross station following complaints.

The message, quoting a saying of the Prophet, sparked both criticism and praise.

    The message was:

“All the sons of Adam are sinners but best of the sinners are those who repent it often.”

Network Rail clarified that general Ramadan celebratory messages were not appropriate for display.

The station’s main board should only show train information.

A Network Rail representative stated they celebrate diverse religious festivals but Humanists UK criticized urging ‘sinners’ to repent in a public space.

King’s Cross station, an iconic London landmark, was constructed in the 1850s and features in popular culture, including the Harry Potter series.
