Maria Wasti’s new drama serial to highlight a patriarchal society’s taboos

Maria Wasti, one of the finest actresses of Pakistan, does not make frequent appearances on television now, which is understandable, considering that Wasti has worked with the likes of Ashfaq Ahmed, Bano Qudsia and Noorul Huda Shah in her prime, portraying layered characters carrying depth and substance.

Her upcoming project, nonetheless, promises a different subject matter, one which is often brushed under the carpet. From the teasers that have been released, the serial shows Hina Altaf in the leading role, going through sexual abuse and then bearing the brunt of it in the form of getting pregnant with a child and inviting abuse from the society. To put in a nutshell, the project will be dealing with the issues of illegitimate children and the misery of their single mothers.

Along with Hina Altaf and Maria Wasti, several notable performers will be making it to the serial including Sami Khan, Azfar Rehman, Yasir Nawaz, Rubina Ashraf, Asma Abbas, Sunita Marshall, Shabbir Jan, Kamran Jeelani, Rashid Farooqui, Namra Shahid, Sidra Niazi, Shaista Jabeen, Fareeda Shabbir, Birjees Farooqui and Akram Abbasi.

Zanjabeel Asim Shah, the woman behind blockbuster projects like ‘Pyar Ke Sadqay’ and ‘Balaa’ has penned the script for the project while Saima Waseem has directed it.
