Members take oath on reserved seats in Punjab Assembly

On Friday, the recently elected members of reserved seats in the Punjab Assembly officially took their oath.

In a session of the assembly overseen by Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan, members elected to represent women and minority communities were sworn in. Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan administered the oath to the newly elected members.

Among the women members who took the oath are Sadia Muzaffar, Fiza Maimoona, Abida Bashir, Maqsoodan Bibi, Amira Khan, Somia Atta, Rahat Afza, Rukhsana Shafiq, Tahseen Fawad, Farzana Abbas, Shagufta Faisal, Uzma Butt, Maria Talal, Sajida Naveed, Nasreen Riaz, Afsheen Hassan, Amna Parveen, Shahr Bano, Zeba Ghafoor, Rubina Nazir, and Syeda Samira Ahmed. Tariq Masih, Waseem Anjum, and Basroji took their oath on minority seats.

Opposition Protests:

During the swearing-in ceremony, the opposition voiced their concerns, with opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, Rana Aftab, stating that despite winning the election, their members affiliated with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) should be given their seats.

Rana Aftab urged the Speaker Punjab Assembly to adhere to the rules of business. He mentioned that the decision regarding reserved seats is pending in court and suggested that oaths should not be administered. However, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan asserted that all procedures are being conducted in accordance with the constitution and laws.
