Mumbai principal fired from school for liking pro-Palestine content on social media

The administration of Somaiya School, a prestigious institution in Mumbai’s Vidyavihar area, has requested its principal to step down due to her engagement with social media posts related to Palestinian support.

The school cited concerns about maintaining unity and inclusivity, stating that her online activities didn’t align with the school’s cherished values.

Despite opposition from the principal, Parveen Shaikh, who deemed the decision illegal and unwarranted, the school emphasized the responsible exercise of social media rights.

Shaikh, who labeled her termination as politically motivated, expressed faith in India’s legal system and was considering legal recourse.

The school had sought clarification from Shaikh but didn’t specify if they received a response.

Shaikh, who had been with the school for 12 years and served as principal for seven, is exploring her legal options.
