NDMA to launch app to provide early warning of potential disasters

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is gearing up to launch a mobile application aimed at providing timely warnings about potential disasters and offering safety guidelines to the general public.

In anticipation of the forecasted rainfall, the NDMA has issued directives to relevant departments in light of potential rain and snowfall expected in the upcoming week. Rainfall and snowfall are anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, and Galliyat during this period.

Considering the likelihood of road blockages due to landslides and heavy snowfall, the NDMA has instructed concerned officials to implement weather awareness measures to ensure the safety of tourists and travelers.

The authority has mandated all Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and other relevant administrative bodies to stay vigilant and prepared to address any emergency situations. Local administrations are urged to take prompt actions to ensure the availability of emergency personnel and machinery in mountainous and snowy regions.

Additionally, the NDMA has stressed the importance of timely evacuation of individuals from areas prone to risks. Continuous monitoring of water levels in rivers and canals is advised, alongside bolstering communication and support networks among concerned departments.

Furthermore, officials are directed to ensure that public awareness messages are available in local languages and to swiftly deploy emergency personnel and machinery to areas at risk of landslides. Farmers are advised to plan agricultural activities considering the weather conditions.

For tourists, it’s recommended to plan trips with consideration for hilly terrain weather conditions. They are also advised to keep important contact numbers of local administration handy for their intended travel destinations.
