Neem: a gripping tale of love and loss.

Neem is a 2023 Hum TV Drama. Produced by
Momina Duraid and directed by Shahzad
Kashmiri, the drama offers a promising storyline.
Written by Kashif Anwar, the drama is set in the
Northern areas.

The plot revolves around Zimmel (Mawra
Hoccaine), Shahzil (Arslan Naseer) Asshad
(Ameer Gilani) and Karamat Khan (Syed Gibran).
Zimmel is an aspiring young woman who upon
completing her degree returns to her village with
the mission to alter the lives of the village
women. She aims to impart her knowledge onto
them to create a just society, particularly for
women who have to bear the wrath of patriarchy
and male domination too often.

The scene in the first episode where Karamat
breaks the tv and cuts off the cable connection
offers a powerful and gripping insight into the
male psyche. According to him the cable is
spreading ‘fahaashi.’ Such men don’t think
rationally and endorse their conservative
viewpoint on the ‘weak’ putting a fullstop to

progression ad education, especially when it
come to women.

On the other hand, we see a love triangle forming
between Zimmel, Shazil and Asshad. Whilst
Zimmel is engaged to Shazil, Asshad has strong
feelings for her in his heart. Who will Zimmel
marry? Continue to watch the drama to find out?
Zimmel’s character is well rounded. She plays
the role of the saviour of women beautifully. She
deserves appreciation for delivering her role
perfectly. Her performance is both effortless and
engaging.

Karamat (Jibran) plays the villian. He is assigned
the role of playing the male chauvinist. He too
conveys his message with a finesse and skill that
is beyond imagination. He nails every role he
plays.

Shazill and Asshad play the Romeo to Zimmel.
Both are madly in love with Zimmel. But Zimmel
has bigger agendas. She has bigger goals. The
girl had agency and she will not let marriage or
love to get into the way of her mission.

So far the script has clarity and meaning. There
are a variety of characters but each character
adds meaning to the plot and not there just as a
filler.

So far so good. Keep watching till the end.
