Novak Djokovic removed from Australian Open by Jannik Sinner

In a significant development, Jannik Sinner defeated tennis legend Novak Djokovic on Friday to advance to the Australian Open final, ending Djokovic’s bid for a record 25th Grand Slam singles victory. Reportedly, Sinner won the match with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3 result.

Djokovic had previously set his sights on breaking his tie with Australian Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles championships, which they have shared since his 24th major victory at the US Open in September, but Sinner managed to put a stop to his goal.

Sinner’s victory is the first time an Italian male player has defeated the world number one in a Grand Slam Men’s Singles tournament since the ATP Rankings were established in 1973, breaking the previous 0-23 streak. Sinner, at 22 years old, is also the Australian Open’s youngest men’s singles finalist since Djokovic in 2008.

Additionally, Sinner is the first Italian player in tennis history to reach the singles final at the Australian Open. In Sunday’s championship match, he will play either third seed Daniil Medvedev or sixth seed Alexander Zverev.
