One dead, six injured in Karachi shop cylinder blast

In a tragic incident, one person lost their life and six others were injured due to a cylinder explosion in Karachi’s New Chali area. The explosion occurred in the generator market building near the Chamber of Commerce entrance, causing a loud blast that was heard from afar. Despite rescue efforts, the fire brigade couldn’t contain the heavy blaze engulfing the building. Locals suspect some individuals might still be trapped inside, prompting ongoing evacuation efforts.

This event underscores the risks associated with gas cylinders, which can explode due to various factors, including substandard quality and failure to adhere to safety protocols during refilling.

Additionally, a vehicle caught fire near Shara-e-Faisal Nursery, fortunately, the occupants escaped unharmed, thanks to swift action by residents and the rescue team to extinguish the flames.

Notably, this incident echoes a similar tragedy in December 2023, when a gas cylinder explosion led to a building collapse in Machar Colony, resulting in three fatalities and 17 injuries. The explosion occurred during a gas transfer operation at a cylinder shop, highlighting the importance of strict safety measures in handling such materials.
