PAK vs IRE: Pakistan won toss and decided to bowl first against Ireland in T20 World Cup match

Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first in their last match of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is about to play at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.

Earlier Pakistan was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024 due to inclement weather in Lauderhill, resulting in a split of points between Ireland and the USA. The USA qualified for the Super Eight alongside India from Group A, as well as a berth in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s World Cup campaign was characterized by gloomy skies and a lack of warm-up games.

That left them reliant on other outcomes, most notably the outcome of the game in Lauderhill between the United States and Ireland. An Irish victory would have kept Pakistan in contention, while any other outcome would have given the United States an unbeatable lead in the points tally over Pakistan. Pakistan’s only win thus far has been a seven-wicket victory over Canada.

They still have one game left, against Ireland, who were also eliminated as a result of the washout, on Sunday. However, this does not imply that they will have to play qualifiers to secure a spot at the next T20 World Cup, as their current T20I ranking of seventh is sufficient to guarantee a spot at the tournament in 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan has never been eliminated from a T20 World Cup so early, having played only three games before their fate was sealed. They were also eliminated from the group stage in 2014 and 2016, but they advanced to the semi-finals on all other occasions. Pakistan has made more finals than any other team (England has three), and they won the title in 2009.
